Light:
Thrives in bright, indirect light. Can tolerate lower light, but growth may slow and variegation may fade.
Water:
Keep soil consistently moist but not soggy. Water when the top inch of soil is dry. Avoid letting the plant sit in water.
Pet-safe:
❌ Toxic to pets and humans if ingested. The plant contains calcium oxalate crystals, which can cause mouth irritation, swelling, and difficulty speaking (hence the name "Dumb Cane").

- Trim the Stems – Use sharp scissors or a knife to cut about 1-2 inches (2-5 cm) off the stems at a 45-degree angle. This helps the flowers absorb water more efficiently.
- Remove Extra Leaves – Remove any leaves that will be submerged in water to prevent bacterial growth.
- Use Clean Water – Fill a clean vase with fresh, lukewarm water. Avoid using very cold or hot water.
- Change the Water Regularly – Refresh the water every 2 days and re-trim the stems to ensure optimal hydration.
- Add Flower Food – If provided, add the flower food to the water to nourish the flowers and slow bacterial growth. If you don’t have flower food, you can mix a teaspoon of sugar and a few drops of lemon juice or vinegar into the water.
- Keep in a Cool Spot – Place the vase in a cool, shaded area away from direct sunlight, heat sources, and drafts. Avoid placing flowers near ripening fruits, as they release ethylene gas, which can shorten the lifespan of flowers.
- Remove Wilting Flowers – Regularly remove any wilted or dead flowers to prevent bacteria from spreading to the healthy ones.
